Ashlea and Nathan's Wedding | Hastwell and Lightfoot, McLaren Flat, South Australia

Congratulations to Ashlea and Nathan who celebrated their love for each other at Hastwell & Lightfoot last month.

The lovely couple created the perfect atmosphere for their ceremony and reception with a relaxed event that made it easy for family and close friends to mingle and get to know each other. The ceremony was held with a beautiful tree as the backdrop and the guests enjoyed the shade from the very hot sun. For the reception, there were games for the kids (and adults) and delicious pizza for the guests.

It was a great evening finished off with a beautiful sunset.

Melissa and Paul's Wedding | Botanic Gardens, Adelaide

After reconnecting with each other in the last few years, Melissa and Paul realised they shared a true love.

They celebrated their love for each other with a beautiful ceremony in the Sunken Garden of the Botanic Gardens. A couple of pre-ceremony rain showers couldn’t stop them and they were married in front of their close family and friends.

Their granddaughter led the way around the pond (my lens froggie helped encourage her to start walking so Melissa could follow). In a unique start to the ceremony, Melissa walked on one side of the pond and Paul walked on the other side and they met in the middle in front of the arch.

We orchestrated a first look photo before the ceremony. Paul was waiting in the Botanic Gardens for Melissa to arrive (I found a spot with a bench in case he had to wait a little while). It’s always heartwarming when the groom sees his bride for the first time. We got some lovely photos before the ceremony and more after.

Melissa and Paul had an outdoor reception in the Sunken Garden immediately following the ceremony. Congratulations to the lovely couple!

McDonald's | Adelaide Airport

So excited I was asked to photograph the brand new McDonald's at Adelaide Airport for Mykra. Although I had to set my alarm for stupid o'clock (3:30am to be exact) last Friday, I covered every angle possible of this amazing fit-out by Mykra before the grand opening at 5:30am that same morning.

It was an honour to photograph Gillingham Hall in all its glory set up for the MLP Annesley 120th Anniversary Gala event last Saturday night. Guests enjoyed drinks and canapes in the courtyard (I did take lots of photos of the guests but haven't added them to this post) before entering the magical hall. Principal, Jo Rossiter, was interviewed by the lovely Nikki (year 3 mum and old scholar) at the beginning of the evening and finished with a video of school children saying why they love Annesley. I left as guests started to receive their meals - it was a long day for me having photographed a wedding earlier in the day.

Austin & Jordan | Muddy Puddles Photo Shoot | Adelaide

It has been almost a year since I did the camping photo shoot of Austin and Jordan and I was having trouble coming up with something that was going to be equally as good.

We had a lot of rain a few weeks ago and there was a spot in the parklands that we drive past almost everyday that had flooded. I decided we would do a muddy puddles photo shoot - the boys had been asking to jump in muddy puddles for as long as I could remember. I was pretty sure there would be a little puddle left the following week so Austin and Jordan put their gumboots and jackets on and grabbed their umbrellas and we drove to the spot I had in mind. Turns out it was a very big puddle (fairly much a lake).

Austin posed for a couple of photos with his umbrella then helped position Jordan for a photo of them together. I then worked out the best place for them to jump in the water so I didn't get any traffic in the background. On my count, Austin was all in and jumped all the way across to a tree. Jordan, however, stood on the edge and was very hesitant. Apparently he didn't want to get wet! He soon worked out what to do with some guidance and before long they were jumping and playing chasey through the water. They had a great time! I emptied their boots numerous times before I had to convince them it was time to go home. We headed to the car to put dry clothes on then it was home for a nice warm shower.

Congratulations to Samantha and Callum who said 'I do' on Easter Saturday!

The couple surprised their family and friends who thought they were attending an engagement party at Kuitpo Hall with a surprise wedding. Sam got ready at her sister's home before her soon to be husband arrived. There were lots of opportunities for great photos including the couple dressing their gorgeous 6 month old baby girl. Once everything was in order it was time to take photos of the bride and groom. We found the perfect spot at the Prospect Hill Museum that provided a beautiful background and a bit of shade from the very sunny gorgeous day. Then it was time for Sam and Callum's grand entrance at Kuitpo Hall. Callum's Aunty officiated the heartfelt ceremony and then it was time to start the party.

This beautiful family (and close friends of ours) were definitely due for family photos. I had photographed their wedding and each of their children shortly after they were born. Babies change and grow so quickly and in my mind it’s incredibly important to capture them at different stages - and even more important to get mum and dad with them in every possible combination. Speaking of how quickly children change... James lost his first tooth the day after this photo shoot.

We chose Himeji Gardens for our setting and as with all outdoor shoots the weather plays quite a factor. The forecast the day before was for rain until 3pm. By 8pm we made the call to reschedule as no one is going to have fun if it’s wet and cold (having said that I’m sure my boys would happily put gum boots on and splash in muddy puddles 😆). By morning there was no sign of rain and we quickly chose to go ahead with the shoot. The weather was perfect for us (I love overcast for portraits) and the rain was kind enough to wait until I got home.

The shoot was fun and I let the boys make the rules and read their mood to know when it was time to stop. They all did so well and had an enjoyable time. This is one of the key things for a portrait session. We look at a photo and remember what happened on that day or how we felt at the time the photo was taken. So positive, happy memories are a must otherwise it doesn't matter how gorgeous the photo is, a negative association with the time means the person in it will never think it's a great photo. Fortunately, this family will have happy memories for a lifetime :-)

Austin & Jordan | Camping Photo Shoot | Morialta, South Australia

One of my projects for the school holidays was to take some “camping” photos of Austin and Jordan. Now that Austin is at school, finding the time for these photo opportunities is a little harder so I am now planning our photo shoots for the school holidays.

I made a white teepee cover for the gorgeous Adair’s teepee that normally sports a jungle theme cover (wasn’t quite going to fit with my vision of this shoot). I also packed 4 marshmallows - 2 for the shoot and one each for them to eat after we got the photos I wanted (bribes are often necessary 😆).

We headed to Morialta and found the perfect spot by the creek. Austin and Jordan collected sticks for our fire and most importantly for the marshmallows then made their own fun throwing rocks in the water. This was a great opportunity to get some natural photos of them while they were playing and not aware of the camera.

It was then time to get the photo I had envisioned of them sitting around the 'camp fire' however the ground was cold and a little damp so they both refused to sit on the ground. Not a problem though as they improvised and did what suited them.

I love capturing the connection they have with each other. This shoot wasn’t about them looking at the camera and smiling, it was more natural and candid.

Note: The boys were in no danger of getting burnt by the fire - I added that in during my editing process 😊

Anthea & Frank's Wedding | Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia

Congratulations to Anthea and Frank who waited 15 years for this special day.

The lovely couple had their ceremony and reception at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia.

Instead of a formal bridal party, they chose to have the most important people in their lives join them at the front during their ceremony including their children, first grandson who was 2 weeks new, and Frank’s mum. The gorgeous ceremony location at the cruising yacht club fit them all perfectly.

Anthea and Frank share a love of boats so it was essential to find the perfect boat for them to have some photos. We found Anthea's favourite and got a few gorgeous photos!

It was a beautiful day 😊

Meet Bear the cute Cavoodle who I photographed over the Easter weekend. They do say never work with children or animals but life would be boring with no challenges. The children that were in this shoot (I haven't included all of the photos) were super easy compared to Bear who wasn't keen on staying still for more than a millisecond. Thankfully, persistence paid off and I managed to get some photos of the gorgeous 6 month old puppy.

Starr & Matt's Wedding | Stockade Botanical Park, Northfield, South Australia

Congratulations to Starr and Matt who celebrated their marriage at Stockade Botanical Park with their three beautiful daughters, family and friends. The lovely couple were married right before lock down with a handful of people present and then had the opportunity to plan and celebrate their marriage the way they had originally planned last month. This made it possible for them to do things in the order they wanted so we started with photos of the Bride and Groom followed by family photos then the ceremony.

Stockade Botanical Park is a hidden gem and was the perfect location for their wedding ceremony and afternoon tea.

Easy Flowers 20th Anniversary and 1920s themed Christmas Gala | Hotel Richmond

Easyflowers celebrated 20 years in business in Great Gatsby style at the Richmond Hotel. Incorporating the 20th Anniversary with a 1920s Christmas Gala, the vibe at this event was spectacular. The outfits were amazing as were the dancers who proved to be a highlight of the night. Amanda & Nikhil | Adelaide Hills Wedding

Amanda and Nikhil planned their perfect wedding together. They created a wonderful combination of an Indian and Australian wedding ceremony all performed by friends. Traditions were honoured while guests experienced a relaxed and joyful ceremony. Fortunately in our timeline planning (I always take the time to help couples work out the best timeline for their wedding day) we allowed for the possibility of hot weather and how that would work in with a 12:15pm outdoor ceremony and a lot of family photos to be taken following the ceremony. We decided on bridal portraits early in the morning before the ceremony. Everyone was getting ready at the Hahndorf Resort and it was already 40+ degrees by 9:30am so I drove Amanda and Nick around the resort and we took some lovely photos at different locations. The Uraidla Show Hall was a great venue and people found nice shady areas of lawn to enjoy the Indian feast that followed. Congratulations Amanda and Nikhil!

Seaview High School has transformed the outside of its gym by adding new banners with photos of the students. I’m very proud to say I was the photographer! I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of showcasing a number of sports and the exciting food science experiment using dry ice to make ice cream. Keep an eye out next time you drive along Seacombe Road.

Emily needed some simple headshots with a plain background so we did a range of angles and hair positions against a natural wall at her home.

We also incorporated a visit with the whole family (Em is my husband's cousins daughter) so Austin and Jordan were with me and Austin was very keen to have his photo taken with Em. After he impatiently waited for Em to have her headshots done, he turned into the art director and set up jumping photos from the stairs and then a nice photo of them sitting together. He had a lot of fun when it was his turn and Em was very obliging. The photos make me smile

YouthFM Graduation and Awards Night | City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters

Congratulations to the participants of the YouthFM program who received their graduation certificates last night at the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters Banquet Hall.

Mayor Robert Bria, gave a wonderful speech to kick off the event and included details about a few of the graduates that he had been chatting to. A big congratulations also goes to Zak Stuart who received the scholarship.

YouthFM is a radio training program that leaves participants with a toolbox of skills to launch them into the workforce. This unique program is a joint initiative of the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, City of Burnside, City of Campbelltown, City of Prospect and Town of Walkerville, and is run in conjunction with Three D Radio. Welcome to the world baby Sasha! We scheduled a newborn photo shoot for the 12 day old baby girl along with photos of the whole family (including the dog) and some of her brother Nate who was a great helper on the day. Every other day had been predictable, but Sasha knew something strange was going on when I arrived at their house to photograph her and she decided sleeping was not something she was about to do. We tried everything without much luck but with a lot of patience and persistence I managed to get some gorgeous photos of the beautiful girl. I was even happier that she modelled the princess crown I made.

This little guy melted my heart! I photographed his christening a couple of weeks ago and he was totally relaxed and loved looking at me which made my job quite a dream! We took photos at his grandparents house before heading to St Francis Xavier's Cathedral where he was baptised along with 3 other children. Following the service there was lunch for family and friends at the Pizza e Mozarella bar on Pirie Street and by this point Andre was so exhausted he slept through the speeches and cake cutting.

March is a special month for Skye and Josh – they met each other in March, they got engaged in March (obviously not the same month that they met J), they married each other in March and if their wishes are granted, they will have a baby by next March.

Thaxted Park Golf Course was the perfect place for their ceremony and reception as it’s not only close to their home but it is a gorgeous venue. I love golf course weddings, especially when it’s time for bridal portraits and we get to cruise around in golf carts and find gorgeous spots for photos. Apart from a bit of duck poo on Skye’s dress, the entire day was wonderful. Congratulations Skye and Josh.

Hacela and Kevin | Home Wedding in Adelaide

Congratulations to this cute couple that celebrated their marriage at their home with family and friends at the end of February. Lots of special touches and a backdrop of white roses provided a lovely spot for the couple to declare their love for each other.

I photographed the cute baby OJ just before Christmas. His mum asked if I could incorporate oranges in the shoot (there is a very interesting back story to the oranges - Jess had been allergic to oranges until she got pregnant then by some strange miracle she was no longer allergic and consumed a lot of oranges and orange juice during the pregnancy).
I created two different settings with the oranges - one as a wreath with orange leaves and the other with a fruit crate in an outdoor environment.

Petruzzelli Portraits | West Lakes Duck Pond

Paige contacted me before Christmas to have photos done with her brother, sister and young cousin to give as a gift to their grandparents for Christmas (although I'm posting this well after Christmas, they received their photos well in advance of the big day :-)). A very thoughtful present! We coordinated a date and time and although the weather was not particularly friendly (bright sunlight and very windy), we got some nice shots of everyone together, along with some different combinations and some individual photos.

Mel and Tim | Barossa Wedding

Congratulations to Mel and Tim! The lovely couple celebrated their marriage in the Barossa a few weeks ago. Their three children played a big role in the wedding day to make it even more special. The ceremony was held in the Rotunda in Tanunda then we went to Mengler’s Hill for photos in front of the lookout (on a clear day you can see the windmill farm in Snowtown – where Mel is from). There was also a perfect spot on the other side of the car park for photos of the bridal couple. We then found a dirt road for photos of the bridal party before stopping at a vineyard for more photos including some rugby shots. Rugby plays a major part of this family’s life – so much so that Tim actually proposed to Mel on her birthday at the Rugby club in front of all their friends. Then it was time to arrive at the Lyndoch Institute for the reception. It was a lovely day!

Baby Callum was the perfect little model at 10 days new. He happily slept through photos with a special blanket, a Datsun sign that his Dad asked to be in the shoot (Em and I weren't sure if he was completely serious but I was more than happy to oblige :-)), his comforter and last was the dinosaur outfit that his brother had worn in his newborn photo shoot. Callum wasn't particularly happy by this point of the shoot but after a little cuddle with me he was asleep again and we got to show off the cute spiky dinosaur.

I’m very honored to have captured Em and Daihmin’s wedding, baby shower, newborn photos of the their first child and now newborn photos of their second. It's great to see the progression of love and there is no shortage of it in this family.

It was an honour to photograph this lovely family with their newest addition. To make everything easier for the family, I like to photograph them in their own home where they are comfortable and don't have to plan too much. It does come with its challenges however and lighting was not my friend on this day but that didn't prevent us getting some lovely portraits. The focus was for family portraits then some photos of the baby, Bodie, on his own. I couldn't resist getting some cute photos of Bodie and his loving sister Piper as well.

Huddleston Family Portraits | Mount Lofty Botanic Garden

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing the beautiful Huddleston family. We started at Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens but it must have been one of the busiest Sunday's of the calendar year with a Colours of Autumn Walk happening plus it was a very harsh sunny day (unfortunately I don't get to choose the weather!). With those two factors working against us and a toddler who is very distracted by the great outdoors, we got a few photos then decided it would be best to change location and go to the Huddleston's home in Crafers. That proved to be a good move and with some very entertaining jumping around and pretending to be a number of different animals, my husband did a great job of getting Thomas' attention and making him smile. I took the opportunity to get some photos of Adam and Lara together along with some lovely profile photos of each of them.

Not only are the Huddleston's fantastic clients but they are also dear family friends. Being given the honour of capturing these photos means a lot to me as Lara has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Making memories for her husband and 19 month old son are the most important thing for her right now and I'm so glad I can contribute through photos. They are currently trying to raise enough money to help with medical costs and equipment including a van for her electric wheelchair (it is very difficult for her to access disability transport living in the hills), and also leaving valuable memories behind for her family members. Thompson Family Portraits | Historic Cummins House

A couple of weeks ago, I met the lovely Thompson family at Cummins House to photograph them in the beautiful gardens. It was a sunny day but the grounds provided plenty of places to capture photos. Jasmine and Justin had postponed their wedding (which was originally scheduled for the day after we did these portraits) so instead of photographing their wedding, I photographed their family instead. Jasmine's sister and family were visiting from Queensland and along with their Mum, it was a great reason for them all to get dressed up and enjoy a lovely day together.

Georgia & Jamie's Wedding | Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia

Congratulations to Georgia and Jamie who celebrated their love for each other on the 12th January. Their wedding brought together the best of the Scottish (Jamie's family) and British (Georgia's family) in a beautiful wedding at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia in North Haven.

It rained on and off during the morning and I was amazed by the relaxed bride who was confident that the rain would not effect the outdoor ceremony. She was right! The ceremony was lovely and included lots of laughs, just the right amount of seriousness and fortunately no rain. It did start to drizzle near the end of the family photos following the ceremony but that didn't put a dampener on things. With the bridal party in tow, we all braved the weather (for fear that it may get worse if we waited) and ventured out onto the marina (with umbrellas) to take some photos on the yacht. More photos of the bridal party and the gorgeous bride and groom were taken throughout the property that provided a good range of spots that were sheltered from the rain.

Having the ceremony, photos and reception all at the same venue made for a fun and relaxed day for everyone.

Austin with his Motor Car

I wanted to do a special photo shoot for Austin when he turned 18 months old and with a lot of planning, this shoot came together nicely. Austin's grandparents had this miniature vintage car at their place and when I first saw it, Austin was too small to fit in it. My prediction was right and he is now the perfect size for it (and he loves steering wheels so that is a bonus!). Tying in with the 1930s motoring theme, I made his motoring outfit then found the perfect spot at Lochiel Park for the photo shoot. The shoot went smoothly (thanks to the weather and pre-planning). There weren't many people around but Austin did spot a dog part way through the shoot which made for a great photo of him pointing ahead.

Camilla's Christening

Congratulations to Camilla who celebrated her baptism at St Francis Xavier Cathedral on Wakefield Street in Adelaide. Family and friends gathered for a lovely lunch at Martini Restaurant to also celebrate her first birthday. Camilla was so exhausted after the church service and all the excitement from the morning that she slept through the beginning of lunch.

Austin has become quite obsessed with my KitchenAid Mixer - so much so that I've nicknamed her Kitty. I like to take photos of whatever Austin is into at the moment and I decided this was a subject that called for a proper photo shoot with an outfit to complement it. I made the Chef's hat and apron then set up the shot on the floor as I couldn't risk having this very active toddler moving around too much on the kitchen bench. As it was, he found a number of distractions as soon as the camera and lightbox was on the scene but fortunately a little but of persistence paid off. Here a few of my favourites...

Rendall Family

I've been quite slow at posting this lovely family portrait session taken in the Adelaide Hills near the end of April but wanted to share the gorgeous Autumn colours in the family's back yard. The Rendall's were after a casual, relaxed photo shoot that showed their personalities. After a tour of their photo wall (I love seeing the effort some people put in to capturing their growing family over the years as I believe it is very important and valuable), we moved to the back yard to start taking photos. We had a very small amount of sunlight before the sky became very grey and the rain started. We managed to work around that challenge and get some lovely photos. I can't wait to see the photos that they chose to add to their wall :-)

Corinna and Kevyn's Wedding

Congratulations to the lovely couple, Corinna and Kevyn on their March wedding. This international company (Corinna is from Germany and Kevyn is from Canada) met playing beach volleyball in Glenelg. Their friends and family travelled a long way to be a part of their special day which was a great celebration of the love that they have for each other.

Corinna and Kevyn had their ceremony at Old Oval Estate in McLaren Vale under the beautiful old gum tree positioned amongst the vineyard. The guests were mesmerized by Kevyn's well spoken vows that were followed by Corinna singing her vows to her new husband. The couple held a small reception at Old Oval Estate immediately following the ceremony. Games had been organised by their friends including a life size jenga.

The formal reception was held at the Brighton Seacliff Yacht Club. Guests enjoyed drinks on the balcony while the bridal party trekked through the sand for some beach photos. The couple's first dance was performed in front of a Mariachi band that got everyone up on the dance floor immediately following the impressive salsa dancing.

At 6 months old he was a great little model and even without a nap, he managed to make it through the service at St Patrick's Church with no problem at all. Family and friends joined him after the service at Sosta on Rundle Street for a delicious lunch.

Congratulations to Leigh and Nathan who were married last November (they received their photos ages ago I've just been a little caught up with Christmas and my little man's first birthday to get to posting them). Their lovely wedding included two receptions - one immediately following the ceremony in the church hall as Leigh is an incredibly generous person and wanted to include her "church family". The second reception was held at West Lakes Hotel after photos with the bridal party at the duck pond not far from the venue. Leigh and Nathan had waited many years for this day to arrive and I was very thankful to be able to capture it for them.

The adorable Arden celebrated her Christening and First Birthday on the 6th November. It was a very special day as we began photos at the house to capture Arden in her beautiful dress before the church service at St Ignatius Parish in Norwood. Arden was christened along with six other little ones and had both sets of godparents by her side (she is a very loved little bubba!). Following the church service, family and friends enjoyed a delicious lunch and afternoon at My Friend Louis.

Sight For All photo competition

I don't enter many competitions but when the announcement of Sight For All "RED" - One Day For Sight 2016 made it into my inbox, I couldn't resist the challenge. The Red Photographic Challenge is designed to bring focus onto a gift that photographers often take for granted, their eye sight.

Those who know me are well aware that my favourite colour is red so my creative ideas had started straight away. The photo could only be taken on Thursday, 13th October and had to say "red" in some way. My immediate thought was red lips and red high heels but thinking a little more, I developed the idea to incorporate my gorgeous 9 month old son and his Great Grandpa's wicker laundry basket that I had obtained for a photo prop if the need arose. Well, the basket came into its own as I turned it into a hot air balloon base with the addition of a number of helium filled red balloons.

Austin, the aeronaut, had to look the part so I made a red satin bow tie to go with his grey outfit. We waited until later in the afternoon as it was a bright sunny day and Grandma and Grandpa helped us trek over to Lochiel Park with all the props. Austin cooperated and I got the shots I needed. I had also added a couple of small old suitcases to the props just in case I wanted to mix it up a little. Changing location, I utilised the sun peeking through a large tree as the background and set up the suitcases and the balloons. Austin posed for only a couple of shots before the plants and wooden planks were too interesting for him to sit still.

Below you'll see the photo titled 'Test Flight' that I entered in the competition (Austin standing up in the hot air balloon). I've also included the second favourite of the hot air balloon pose and my favourite from the old suitcase set up.

The finalists from the competition will be featured in an exhibition and more importantly, it will raise funds for Sight For All, a blindness prevention organisation with a focus on sustainable and high impact education in developing Asia, delivering eye health care projects free of charge to their partner countries. Even if I'm not chosen as a finalist, I have photos of Austin with my favourite colour that I can treasure forever.

Congratulations to Erica and Geoff on their recent wedding. Married on the 9th of April at All Soul's Church, the lovely couple have been together for a number of years and have two beautiful daughters and an adorable son. Amara (the middle child) was a brilliant little helper while the family was getting ready at the house. She even set up the flowers and shoes for me to photograph :-)

The church was packed and the family hug once they were declared husband and wife was heartwarming. There wasn't much time before the sun went down but we quickly went to the park for photos and then to the Art Gallery of South Australia for the reception. It was a wonderful day celebrating the union of Erica and Geoff and their gorgeous family.

It was a pleasure photographing Flavia who was in need of a few professional portraits. Although she wasn't a fan of having her photo taken, by the end of the shoot she was having a great time which I find very rewarding! Combining a mix of studio lighting for the corporate portraits and some natural photos taken in the park, Flavia has a variety of photos to use for her profile photos and for a couple of journals that she will be mentioned in (we worked together to narrow down the edited photos and still had more than enough favourites). At just shy of 8 weeks old, it was a great time to photograph the beautiful family including their very well behaved fur baby. After years of photographing other people's babies, I am so excited to now have my own to photograph. Austin was born on the 15th January and has had a number of photo shoots already (although it is a lot harder being photographer and mother at the same time!). I couldn't resist setting up the tripod and getting some photos with me as well. Thankfully I had put a towel down on the floor as Austin thought it was a good time to wee when I had him naked in my arms. Photoshop was necessary to remove some of the droplets :-)

Note: I posted these pics on Facebook awhile ago but overlooked putting them on my blog (I now have a note to myself to update the blog more often!).

The final month of my Photo a Day challenge saw me jetsetting off to Hawaii for some sun, relaxation, snorkelling and volcanoes. Christmas was obviously a good theme for a number of photos and I experimented with star trails and self portraits. I hope you enjoy the last 31 photos of the challenge.
